Future Technology Already in the Works?

By: Devin Cleaves

After watching the future technology video in class I couldn’t help but wonder exactly how far in advance do companies begin planning the development of a product. Some of the products seemed to be nothing more than lofty ideas, such as a computer navigating you from your car. I’m sure these things sounded crazy to people in 1980s like a pair of glasses that talks, navigates, and plays music sounds crazy to us.

The fact that most of the ideas in the video actually hit the market makes me think these products are already in the process of being manufactured. The fact that technology has gotten so refined and efficiency has come about because of how much importance we place on convenience; the more innovative technology because the lazier we become as humans.

Here is a video that speculates the possible technologies we might run into soon which I believe are already in the works.

  1. True people in the 80's would probably look at us like we had 2 heads. The Fact in the video you could already tell technology is moving. There where so many inventions in the video that they already accomplished and are not from the rest that is not out yet.

  2. I agree with what you said in your blog and what was in the article. I believe many of these things that sounded crazy not too long ago could be very close to becoming real. For example the flying car sounds hard to create but because of high demand for so many years I believe that it could happen sooner than we think. I think the most important part of your blog that most people do not realize is that the greater technology becomes, the lazier human become.

  3. Such about technology is true, and ultimately technology will continue to grow and advance to ease access of a variety of different aspects and resources of the world. Technology is being used in a myriad of beneficial ways and people are becoming more and more reliant on what will come next in technology because of such rapid growth.

  4. I do agree that these advancements of technology were not foreseen. Technology has grown and is expected to continue to grow as we, as human beings, look to offset many of the burdens that have become characteristic of our daily lives. As we strive to maintain the degree of efficiency of which we have become accustomed, technological advancement is sure to continue. While many of the current proposals of future technology may seem unrealistic, and, in some cases, unnecessary, it is my greatest belief that these products will come to be. Like you mentioned in your article, did the people of the 1980s foresee iPods, iPhones, iPads, or iMacs? It is interesting, however, that a common thread through all stories of technological advancement is the proposed "Flying Car". It will truly be interesting to see if this idea comes to fruition.

  5. I truly enjoyed your blog post and found many topics discussed in the article to be quite valid. I find it very interesting that not long ago we all speculated about the future of technology and the rolls they played and would play in our lives. Day by day new tech is developed that favor the predictions of shows such as "Star Trek" that display touch screen monitors (I-anything) I can't wait to witness the progression of technology throughout the next 10 years.
