Homework #4

Homework #4 is due Sunday October 14, 2012 at midnight. Just submit one file. After midnight, there is a 10 point late fee.

The assignment is to download data into excel and create a table. Create three sheets in your file. Copy the downloaded data into each sheet (same data). Create the data in each sheet into a table. So you will have three tables with the same data in each table.

I want you to sort the data and exclude some data. Give me three examples that show you know how to do this. So each table will be different. Your grade is based on learning and using advanced sorting techniques.

  1. Making tables on excel to organize, rank, and fiter data is a very useful tool. During my summer internship I needed to pull thousands of data sets from an online data base and put them in a format where I could easily see all of the information. Using tables helped present the data in a streamlined way and allowed me to easily graph different values from the table to see relationships between the variables.

  2. Great point Boris.
Data tables also make it easier for managers and executives to analyze information and make critical business decisions.

  5. I agree with Boris. Everything I did at work was based off of Excel and Charts. In addition, another good tool is the Filter tool.
