What we Learned

BY: Turon Jackson

The semester is finally over. Throughout this course I have learned a whole lot of valuable information that I can share with other people. Not only technical things but everyday life things as well. I feel like this course has taught me more things that I will actually use and remember than any other class at Morehouse. In class, we have learned how to use excel, vlookup, Google fusion tables, and pivot tables just to name a few.

These are some of the things that will help all of us in the long run as technology advances. But we also learned other things like how to make a budget, how to start an online business, how to beat speeding tickets, and even what would be a good age to get married. The class overall probably took a lot more away from this class then they even think. Below are a few sites to help young people get a head start on life:

These sites explain how to start a savings account, how to start your day off right, and what to do in an interview. In this day and age even though technology is rapidly changing every day we need to remember that technology does not run are lives. We must remember to step back from technology every once in a while and refresh our minds. Maybe go camping or read a book.

In conclusion, I feel like this class has really given us some of the tools we need to be successful and gave us a little look at what our future is going to be like.

  2. Your blog reads true. MIS is definitely one of the most practical courses I have ever taken. I appreciated the candid conversation, and how logistics as it relates to technology was emphasized. One must also appreciate the financial literacy aspect as well. There is a diference between being frugal and cheap ya know.

  3. MIS has truly been the class that I feel I have learned the most in this semester. Not only will the information that we were exposed to help us in corporate america and business but in life in general. Professor Sistrunk has provided us with lots of Information regarding saving and credit, which are very important and crucial aspects of obtaining most of theh things we desire such as home-ownership. this class made availablt to us tolls that we did not existed and the best part about these tools is that they are free.

  5. I agree with Mr. Jackson as well. As we are in the middle of the "tech era", there needs to be more emphasis on teaching about informational technology. A class like MIS needs to be offered in two parts because it is difficult to fit all of the necessary information into one semseter.

  6. I don't think there will be another class quite like MIS during our time at Morehouse. Any class or professor that teaches you how to keep up to date with the progressive technologies and the ways to utilize them in business are both priceless. From beating speed tickets to YouMail to close to full knowledge of excel, Prof. Sistrunk has showed that the entrepreneurial possibilities are endless.

  7. MIS provided me with the proper knowledge and tools to take advantage of within this technological bloom within the Cloud. As everything is now moving into the Cloud, it is imperative for universities and colleges to offer a course that touch bases on how to fully utilize cloud-based services online. This class has definitely awaken my entrepreneurial spirits.

  8. Hands down the most useful and logical class offered at Morehouse. This class prepares you for what WILL happen instead of what IS happening. Nothing is worse than spending $100,000 on a degree, but in 2 years everything you learned is obsolete.

  9. I just think that college students in general experience a change of pace going from high school to college. You are basically on your own. But MIS has taught some good habits that we should start practicing like being frugal and operating on a budget.

  12. I agree, as well. For many I believe this is a solid reminder of what we have been exposed to even if all students may not have retained all the information it definitely allowed us to be more aware of how powerful online and internet data/information can be.
